"Wish List" ProjectOften, teachers, community partners, youth groups and others in the community have great project ideas to benefit the community, but are in need of certain materials, resources or supplies to help make the project a reality. To help link up folks who have needs with those that might be able to help, we have created the "Wish List" Project. In this section of our web site, groups can list needs they have -- and others in the community can check in to see if they can help meet some of these needs! Current "Wish List" Projects: GreenhouseLinda Garl, who teaches a multi-age 1st/2nd grade class at South Whidbey Primary School, has worked with her students over the past few years on creating an absolutely beautiful garden outside of their classroom at the South Whidbey Primary School. Linda and her students would love to be able to expand their gardening efforts with a greenhouse. If you have a small greenhouse that you would be interested in donating, please contact Linda Garl at 360-221-2808 ext. 4621. Fresh VegetablesKathy McGlaughlin, Executive Director of Good Cheer, is looking for groups and individuals who would be willing to help provide fresh vegetables to the Good Cheer food bank. Kathy would like to partner with groups who would like to grow some vegetables specifically for the food bank, as well as individuals who would like to donate excess from their own gardens. If you are interested in helping provide fresh vegetables to our local food bank, please contact Good Cheer at 360-221-6454. Cooking Class To Teach How To Cook With Dried Beans, Legumes And Other Basic FoodsThose working with familes in the community who are struggling to make ends meet have found in their conversations with folks that many people don't know how to cook with basic, healthy, inexpensive foods, such as homemade soups with beans or legumes – and are then forced to purchase more expensive (and less healthy) processed foods. If there are groups or individuals who would be interested in putting together a cooking class, or putting together a project, recipe book etc., please contact Good Cheer at 360-221-6454. Build a Platform, Picnic Tables, Benches, and MoreThe South Whidbey Cooperative Preschool would like to improve its toddler playground, which it shares with the Headstart Program, by building a platform for a slide, two child-sized picnic tables and benches, a toddler swing set, a storage shed, and two small raised garden beds. Anyone with materials, funding, or who would be willing to build any of the items should contact Margaret Delp at 360-579-2614. If your group, classroom or organization has a "Wish List" item, please contact Victoria Santos, and we'll add you to our Wish List page! |
