Collaboration between community organizations and schools is at the heart of good service-learning. The South Whidbey Community Engagement Center's role is to assist each of these groups in creating linkages and partnerships to achieve the goals of their mission and programs, enhance student learning, and help meet real community needs. In order to do so, this page will provide these opportunities:
- Community organizations can list current projects and programs that could use support from schools and/or other youth organizations. This support can range from students helping to engage in surveys of community need, to helping the League of Women Voters run a candidate's night. As these "looking to partner" postings are listed on our web site, teachers and other youth organizations can view these needs, to see if they can support the needs of the organization. The heart of service-learning is providing ways that students can use their academic learning to meet real community needs. Through this program to link community organizations and schools, teachers will become aware of opportunities in the community for their students to enhance their learning.
- School groups, teachers and other youth organizations can list current units of studies they are involved in, service-learning ideas and the types of community partnerships they hope to find.
- In addition to this linkage support, South Whidbey Community Engagement Staff is also available to help both teachers and community organizations in designing and developing service-learning programs with collaboration between schools and the community.

Good Cheer is working on creating a hunger-free community. If a South Whidbey community member is hungry they can come to the Good Cheer food bank once a month and receive a food basket that currently includes canned fruit and vegetables. The Good Cheer Food Bank would like to improve the nutritional value of what they allocate and offer our clients fresh fruits and vegetables on an on going bases. Currently we only offer fresh fruits and vegetables when they are donated, which is normally a few times a year, during our local growers prime growing time. We are looking for a partner that would interested in growing fresh fruits and vegetables for our food bank clients.
Our Food Bank clients would also be helped if they had access to opportunities to learn how to prepare low-cost nutritional meals. We are looking for a partner that could host cooking classes or prepare a cook book that would include recipes demonstrating or showing the different ways to prepare dry beans, rice, noodles, chicken, hamburger, etc. We would like to help increase the skills of our Food Bank clients that would enable them to get the most nutritional value out of their food allocations as possible.
